What you'll do
The experience is a combination of plein air and studio painting that will include instruction and enough time to complete one small painting of the St. Augustine Lighthouse. No experience is needed! This activity is open to anyone 11 years and older who can paint outside in the Florida heat. We will mostly be in the shade! The minimum group size is 1 and the maximum is 6. The steps are as follows: 1. We will meet at 8 am at the picnic area across from the St. Augustine Lighthouse. The park is called J. Edward "Red" Cox Recreational Facility. I will provide all art supplies (professional grade water color paper, drawing pencils, student to professional grade paints, ink pens) to sketch and paint a watercolor of the St. Augustine Lighthouse. I will also provide chairs. 2. I will instruct as to how to sketch and how to use water colors through out the experience. 3. We will sketch and paint for 2 hours. The third hour will be in my home studio which is close to the Lighthouse so that we can finalize our paintings and cool off. If you prefer to remain at our original location to complete the painting, that option is perfectly fine provided everyone is in agreement. I will provide everyone with a clear plastic envelope for each of their paintings .
I have been a water colorist since I was an early teen. It is a passion and ability that I inherited from my father and my maternal great aunt. I am one of five artists out of my eight siblings. I studied fine arts in Flagler College here in St. Augustine, Bellas Artes and Instituto de Allende, both in Mexico. (Hence, I am fluent in Spanish.) In addition, I have been a plein air and street painter in St. Augustine for ten years. During my professional career as an educator, I have on occasion taught art in the public schools. My art has been purchased by a broad spectrum of people, from art collectors to tourists from near and far on the streets of St. Augustine. Please visit my website at elizabethharris60.tripod.com.

Where you'll be
I have lived on Anastasia Island for over 40 years and know the area well. We will conduct our experience in a small park across the street from the St. Augustine Lighthouse. This is an opportunity to experience first hand being a plein air painter in one of the most picturesque cities in the United States. Then, we will finish our paintings in my studio space at my artist bungalow on Davis Shores, less than a quarter a mile away.
