What you'll do
We'll meet at the Crooked Can Brewery, since that is where we're will also finish. Then we drive you just a few blocks to Newton Park on Lake Apopka, where it all began for Winter Garden. You'll be surprised by it's star-studded history and success story. Then we'll visit a small section of the beautiful West Orange Trail, to see an eagle's nest, peacocks, and possibly, African wildlife. Next, we'll stop for some delicious and unique tastings at the Winter Garden Farmer's Market, awarded the best farmer's market in the nation. More tasting and history will follow as we stroll along brick paved streets, exploring the beautiful downtown area. We'll discover the invention which changed agriculture forever, the first "talkie" theater in Central Florida, as well as the most advanced hotel of its day. We'll visit the Winter Garden Heritage museum and learn how the citrus industry built the city and how its decline transformed the city yet again. Along the way, we will taste the local fare at award-winning restaurants. We'll wind up our day at the acclaimed Crooked Can brewery for a beer flight tasting. Wine and coffee are also options here.
I grew up in central Florida, beginning in 1965. My wife, Judi, is a Floridian by birth. We both have the same passions (travel, history, food/wine, and nature); and we have found countless non-touristy treasures in cities and towns across the country. We are both big history buffs, and love to tell others of the rich history of our beautiful home town of Winter Garden. We are foodies and wine lovers. We are big nature enthusiasts who love nature trails and kayaking. In our travels, Judi and I have learned what makes a trip to a city special and memorable. They are: 1. Good local food finds. 2. Rich, fascinating history. 3. Gorgeous scenery. 4. Personable, knowledgeable, fun, interactive hosts. We want you to have a time you will never forget, and we bet you'll be tempted to move to Winter Garden
