What you'll do

In the workshop, Trudi will introduce a simple and effective approach to capture a landscape in a short period of time. Whilst the focus is on learning, the atmosphere is one of fun and enjoyment. Basic elements of landscape painting will be covered such as: how to use your materials in the easiest and most efficient manner, how to select a subject, simplify a landscape, recognise patterns, shapes and rhythms and how to use thumbnail drawings to design a composition. We will work both in drawing and painting techniques, using pencil, charcoal, watercolour and acrylics. One of the great challenges of working outdoors is knowing how to gather sufficient information in a limited timeframe. If weather conditions are not great, we will work indoors. The workshops will be on Saturday 4, 11 and 18th May & 8,15 and 22 June 2019 from 11 - 4 pm. A great oppurtunity to meet local fellow creatives. Suitable for all levels. Basic materials are included. Please bring light lunch.

Where you'll be

The location of the workshops 'Painting in the Open Air' (En Plein Air) is Studio Shanahea, which is situated on the Shannon Estuary. An idyllic rural setting with a private beach and a tree sheltered garden, full of interesting gems. The Estuary has beautiful light and views. Aim is to work in the open air, but if weather conditions are not great we can work in the fully equiped artist studio overlooking the Shannon Estuary.
