What you'll do

Tomies Wood is the oldest oak forest in Ireland located inside Killarney National Park.

I will meet with my hiking group at Kate Kearney's Cottage, in The Gap of Dunloe, Killarney at 10:30.

After I have made sure they have the right hiking footwear and clothing for our walk, I will discuss our day with them and show them our route clearly on the map.

From there we will drive to the walk start point at Tomies Wood free car park in 5 minutes.

We will start our 4 hours walk together at a leisurely pace and I will make sure that everybody is comfortable and happy.

We will stop at regular intervals for people to enjoy the scenery, have some food, drinks, etc.

During the walk I like to talk with my group about issues related to the area, and sites of interest such as ancient dwelling places.

The walking route suitable for moderate fitness level, will be via the green road loop, some tracks into the wood and the lower slopes of Tomies and Shehy mountains. Great views of Killarney town, Lough Leane, and O’Sullivan’s Cascade.

I always aim to make the walks a very special and memorable experience for my clients. Every one of my guided walks on Airbnb has its' own particular places of outstanding beauty.

Guests must have own transport to go to meeting-starting point.

Book this hike! Don’t miss this one! Cesar is such a kind & caring person who will tailor a hike to suit you, as an individual, perfectly. He loves what he does & has a knowledge of Killarney that goes beyond even what locals know of the area. I can’t recommend this hike enough. It’s in a unique & untouched part of Killarney with gorgeous flora & fauna, mountains & ancient oaks, rivers & streams, waterfalls & stunning views that will remain in your heart & mind. You will feel very relaxed on this hike in that you can just be yourself and enjoy nature. I brought some food and a thermos of tea & we stopped whenever I wanted to take pictures & eat. You can hike as fast as you want as well. Do book this hike! It’s not to be missed!

Cesar was awesome, the weather wasn’t the best so he adjusted the hiking trail to accommodate us. He took us to Black Valley that we for sure would have never found on are own. Best hike ever

Great walk. Because it had rained, Cesar suggested a different trail. Otherwise, we would have had to navigate long stretches of tall, wet grass. But he let me make the decision. The alternate (Black Valley) was still spectacular. Cesar was also that I enjoyed myself, but did not push myself too much.

This was my first trip to Ireland and at home I like to hike. It was very nice to find this experience on Airbnb. I think it will appeal to outdoor lovers. Cesar was very helpful in answering all my questions before the hike and during it as well. He was very conscious of my abilities and never made me feel rushed. He seemed genuinely concerned that I had a great experience. It was easy to tell that leading a hike for him was not like work, but pleasure. Cesar even took several photos of me which I really appreciate as I will have a lasting memory of the hike. This hike was good value for the cost.
