What you'll do
Did you know that you can make paper, turn it into art and take home the coolest souvenir ever? People have been making paper for hundreds of years. It is actually very easy to do. I will show you how we start with leaves, such as iris and day lily, cook them, beat them in a professional machine or a blender, and then pour them over a screen to make paper. We will not make plain white paper that you could buy in any store however. Oh no! We will embed leaves, twigs, pigments, and all kinds of things into the paper making it worthy of framing in your home. If the day is hot and sunny we will set the paper out to dry in the sun. If not we will prepare a way for you to carry it until it dries, or it can be picked up the next day.
I am a professional papermaker, making multi media art in paint, pencil and oil pastels. My work is completely ecologically sustainable in both the making of the art and its deterioration. As an international artist I have had exhibitions, taught, and attended artist residencies, in China, Australia, Sweden, Copenhagen, India, the US, and many other countries. Most recently, I became the very first person in the world to have ever made paper from the Wollemi Pine tree while I was on an artist residency in Australia. Ask me to tell you about that experience! I started my art career in landscape painting, but after 250 pieces of art I decided to return to school at age 55. I received my bachelors and masters in painting and then fell in love with paper making. I can now make papers up to 12 feet tall and more! Let's have fun together!
We will stop for a break with drinks of your choice.
A Holland beater will be used to take leaves and turn it into pulp for making paper. It has a cylinder with metal ridges…
Where you'll be
A professional artist studio will be the place that we will make our paper. French doors open into the garden where we will collect leaves for making into pulp.
