What you'll do

Guests will meet me at Cushenberry Summit where the Pacific Crest Trail crosses Highway 18. I will lead guests on a locals tour along the Pacific Crest Trail. If guests are joining me on this hike mid-April-May don't be surprised if we meet tons of friendly PCT Thru-hikers on our journey southbound on the PCT! These hikers hike 2,650 miles in a season as they follow the trail from Mexico to Canada. My guests and I will just hike a small 4-6 mile section of trail in the mountains of Big Bear Lake. We will stop at a sacred tribal site for the Serranos along the way, where guests will get views of Baldwin Lake. Pretty wild cactus flowers are in bloom in the springtime along this trail; If the cactus are in bloom, I’ll even harvest a cactus blossom snack for my guests. Or we might stop to try other edible plants of the San Bernardino National Forest. If you choose to hike the trail with me in March there may still be small patches of snow on the trail. There are many great photo opportunities along this section of trail. If we are lucky we may even see wild donkeys migrating between Arreste Creek and Shay Meadows! This hike mainly goes downhill, not a lot of elevation gain; to where my SUV will be parked near Kickapoo Trail. I will then shuttle guests back to their vehicle. If you wish to do a hard hiker, we could also do this as an uphill hike

Amber

I've been exploring the wilderness of the San Bernardino Mountains for the last twenty years. I've hiked most of the Pacific Crest Trail through the Big Bear Valley and know all the prettiest spot. As your outdoor adventure guide through mountain trails I'm fluid on the plants and creatures that roam these mountains. I know all the prettiest spots in the mountains around the Big Bear area for hiking and outdoor fun adventures. Photography and photo editing are one of my passions as well, and if my guests want, I will help take posed and candid shots of them as we trek along this pretty trail.

Where you'll be

We will stop at an amazing spot, a sacred tribal landmark for the Serrano People called Eye of God, it's only well known to locals. If guests wish we can also head up into the area of the Pacific Crest Trail where the wild burros migrate and we might have a chance to see them from a far and get some great photos. If we see any butterflies migrating I’ll teach your group a little about our local butterflies and how to photograph them easily.

Things to keep in mind

Cancellation policy

Any experience can be cancelled and fully refunded within 24 hours of purchase, or at least 7 days before the experience starts.

Communication policy

Always communicate through Airbnb. To protect your payment, never transfer money or communicate outside the Airbnb website or app.

Guest requirements

Up to 4 guests ages 9 and up can attend. Most of this hike is downhill but it’s still a three-hour hike, usually 4-6 miles of hiking, depending on your speed, so expect to be in good enough physical shape to be on your feet for that long.

Government ID

You’ll need to take a picture of yourself that matches the photo on your ID. This is so Airbnb can confirm who’s actually going on the experience. You’ll only have to do this once.

More tips

Dogs are invited on this hike but I recommend they be leashes. There are rattlesnakes on this trail. If guests are interested in a longer tour of the PCT I offer that also. Ask about pricing.
