What you'll do

Want to forage food and discover how to cook it according to ancient tradition? Join Farmer Ben and me on a guerrilla farming tour through the streets of Venice. Then, LA native Chef Michelle Lainez will school us in a Salvadoran keepsake: the rigua-style chuchito, or baby tamale. We'll learn to select and harvest produce, then craft chuchitos from fresh corn husks, like grandma used to make. Empowering you to bring this technique back to your own kitchen & community, we'll share the power of growing your own food, preparing it & preserving it day by day.

About the organisation

Community Healing Gardens

Community Healing Gardens' mission is to foster community through urban gardening. CHG launched in Venice summer of 2015. We currently have built over 50+ garden food boxes on the streets in Venice working with homeless population as well as now piloting a urban garden program at a middle school in Watts, Los Angeles a notorious food desert and underserved community. All things grow with love.

This is a social impact experience where 100% of what you pay for this experience goes to Community Healing Gardens.

Where you'll be

Meet up in Venice for a guerrilla harvest from our urban garden boxes scattered throughout the hood. Then a short ride to Gourmandise, LA's premier cooking school, for a pickling and tamale lesson, using our own produce. But this class is not offered to the public so shhh... it's our secret!
