I'm an urban beekeeper and founder of DC Honey Co. LLC, DC Backyard Honey and DC Backyard Bees. I work with class A commercial real estate office buildings and top tier Hotel brands to establish urban rooftop honey bee hives/colonies and the production of honey, in our nations capital. I manage my own urban honeybee apiary and gardens in the heart of Washington, DC, where I have worked with honey bees for the past 3 years to promote and educate residents on the critical roles that honey bees play as key pollinators in our ecosystem.

This was such a fun way to end our trip. I was in town for business and was stressed and exhausted, this was the perfect relaxing fun activity to end my busy trip. I learned a lot, got to wear a bee suit, and was able to enjoy a warm drink and delicious snack with Vernon and his family.

We had a really amazing time. Getting to meet the little workers up close without fear of being stung is a completely new dynamic. Getting to ask an expert all of our bee related questions was definitely the highlight for all of us. Also, being from the city, it was really nice after a stressful week of running around to decompress over tea in such a homey space with such pleasant people. It’s a really unique experience and I would recommend it highly.

It's an amazing experience. We had a chance to interact with a bee hive, learn about the experience of making honey and had wonderful honey-based snacks and tea. It was special and it's great to support a local initiative within DC.

What a wonderful day! I can’t quite describe it. I left feeling I had made friends with Vernon and his wife. It certainly was a once in a lifetime journey (Did you ever think you would hunt for a queen bee in a box full to the brim with bees) or see beehives on the rooftop of one of DCs most beautiful hotels, I had NO idea. Don’t miss this. (Don’t be scared of honey bees. They won’t hurt you as long as you are calm.)
