What you'll do

A walk around my local 'village' of Stoke Newington, visiting Abney Park, Church Street & Clissold Park. Just three miles north of the City & we'll be in a different world. Abney Park is one of London's 'magnificent seven' parkland cemeteries - a 32-acre nature reserve with beautiful birdsong, ancient trees & gravestones of non-conformists & abolitionists. I will tell you about some of the characters buried here. We will stroll down 'hip' Church Street with its range of cafes, pubs & shops. You'll see Banksy's street art, churches, ghost signs and maybe spot deer in Clissold Park. The area is known for its ethnic diversity, Orthodox Jewish community, LGBT population & radical dissenters. We can talk about British life, have a cup of tea and a fresh chocolate truffle.

Nicola

I have lived in Stokey 'village' for 20 years and love to share my knowledge and show people things they might miss - gravestones in Abney Park Cemetery, ghost signs, deer, street art and chocolate! I am happy to talk about the history and diversity of the area and wider British culture. I am a graduate of the London School of Economics, have published three books and worked for The Guardian.
