What you'll do
Tucked away on the residential streets of this lively south-east London neighbourhood – in Zone 2 and just 12 minutes from London Bridge – are impressive works by renowned urban artists, including Artful Dodger, Phlegm, Stik and Agent Provocateur. Many have been inspired by the Dulwich Picture Gallery, and the majority are impossible to track down unless you're a local in the know. Discover a wealth of these artworks on my trail, which can also take in surprise views of the city, quirky sculptures, secret gardens and the area's independent food quarter, where you can stock up for a picnic lunch. Afternoon or evening trails will end in an art-inspired cocktail, courtesy of mixologist Tim, the owner of my favourite local bar.
I've lived in the neighbourhood since 1987 and have seen it transform from a dead-end district where Irish bars hosted bare-knuckle fights, to today's stylish suburb. I love showing it off to family and friends – whether they're eight or 80. I'm a journalist by profession, a history buff by nature, and I've blogged on London, as well as written guides to its hidden secrets.

Where you'll be
East Dulwich is one of London's thriving 'villages', and a residential neighbourhood where urban art is quite unexpected and, more often than not, only seen by locals. It's exceptionally leafy with parks, gardens, a Victorian cemetery, even a golf course with sweeping views – all within easy reach of central London (just 12 minutes by train from London Bridge).
