I'm a Chicagoan and founder of the dark history site "Dead in Chicago," which features stories of disasters and crime from the city's past. I've lived here for a decade and have always been fascinated with the darker side of the city, how it shapes our present, and the resiliency of Chicagoans.

We'll meet at the site of a historic fort and battle, and then set out on an in-depth exploration of how Chicago's brushes with calamity have helped shape this modern metropolis. We'll stroll down the Chicago Riverwalk, see the dock where a cruise ship capsized, and take a look at the origins of the Chicago Flood. We'll stop for tea next to the location of the worst theater fire in US history, and…

Where you'll be
We'll start at the site of Fort Dearborn—a US fort built in 1803, and then explore the downtown Loop area, concentrating on the river. We'll see where the SS Eastland capsized, and visit the former home of the Iroquois Theatre on Randolph Street.
