What you'll do
I will introduce the participants to the History of Ancient Greece and explain how the History of Ancient Athens began and how its political system developed more than 2,500 years ago into a democracy. I will show how archaeological remains are connected to Ancient History and how much we can learn about the operation of Ancient Athenian Democracy from the study of archaeological finds and ancient inscriptions. We shall bring to life in the classroom great individuals of the past and their actions which have shaped the values of modern western civilization. We shall explore how ancient stones and writings connect to modern political ideas and practice. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect upon their own value system and compare it with that of the Ancient Greeks. We shall explore ancient Greek wisdom and learn its valuable lessons. The class will be open to discussion which will take place in a relaxed environment. Refreshments will be offered.
