What you'll do

After a quick meet & greet, we'll get you on bikes and merge with the locals on the bike lanes and streets in Copenhagen NV and Nørrebro. They are the up and coming areas in Copenhagen, and with a number of recent urban transformations taking place, we can trace the rise (and difficulties) of welfare in the Danish society. This neighbourhood features lots of interesting new architecture, public spaces and emerging cultural and commercial activities, small creative businesses, entrepreneurs, – and of course hipsters. The area also embodies the rise of the Danish welfare society since the early 20th century, featuring many social housing schemes, cooperative industries, working class and immigration history. We’ll take short rides between many stops with explanations and discussions over buildings, spaces, places, neighbourhoods, people, culture and more. We’ll adapt the route and speed to everyone in the group as best possible. After returning we’re inviting you on a beer or drink and a chat at Åbenbar, a cool, updated version of an old school Danish pub (værtshus). Unless you are bringing your own bikes, we’ll provide high-quality bikes as well as optional helmets and bottled water to bring.

Learn more about Alice & Asser

Alice & Asser

Alice has a degree in philosophy and modern culture and has worked with urban planning at a strategic level. She has a profound interest in how architecture and city planning is influencing everyday life in the city. Asser has experience teaching and practising architecture, and have made a living from his passion by founding beCopenhagen, a bike tour operator sharing the local's view on the world's most liveable city. We both have a passion for debating and exchanging views on building design, urban spaces, and community. And of course, we have a thing or two to add about the world's leading bike infrastructure! :)

What's included

Drinks
We'll bring a bottle of water, and we'll host you with a drink from the bar after the tour.
Transport
A good quality, Danish brand bike. Normal adult size (frame size 52''-56'' - wheel size 28'').
Equipment
Optional bike helmet. Helmets are not compulsory in Denmark, and most adults don't use them. We'll have one if you prefer it.

Where you'll be

We'll bike through the neighbourhood to visit projects by prominent architects as well as unnoticed gems of social housing schemes, all of which reveals something essential about the Danish welfare society, and the local community and lifestyle. You'll be introduced to residential, industrial, commercial, healthcare, and social projects, public spaces, 'super bike lanes', and - not least - you'll experience daily life first hand.
