What you'll do

2020 marks the 76th anniversary of the bombing of Monte Cassino Abbey, the four Battles of Montecassino and the breakthrough to Rome.
It will be a great occasion to celebrate peace, liberty and reconciliation here!
You have the possibility to experence what happened on the battlefields and why the Allied and the Axis took the awful decision to bomb Monte Cassino abbey and town.
I will pick you up at the train station of Cassino and I will start to show you shortly the new town on Cassino, totally rebuilt after the war, then I will show you the Gustav Line from far away, so that you will understand how dangerous this defensive line was for the Allied.
We will stop at the Rapido River in Sant'Angelo area, where the 34th Red Bull Division and the 36th Texas Division tried to cross the River and we will pay respect to the 36th Division's monument.
We will stop in the town, where the German Headquarter was, and then we will stop again at Castle Hill ( where the Kiwis and the Gurkas tried to attack the Abbey) and at the Belvedere point.
I will show you the Liri Valley from the slopes of Montecassino, we will visit the Abbey of Monte Cassino on an WW2 point of view, and then we will pay a visit to the Commonwealth memorial and Cemetery.

I'm Anna, I was born and grew up in Cassino, in the countryside where the Rapido river flows and the Four Battles of Monte Cassino took place.
I grew up between pieces of bombs, s-mines, and the memories of those who were witnesses of the bombing.
I'm an Italian licensed tour guide (certified by the National Tourist Board) with a PhD in WW2 History at the Humboldt University of Berlin.
I read so many books about the war, I followed the last Veterans in the places they remembered, and I heard their personal experiences.
I will be happy to share with you the most important events of the Four Battles of Cassino, my granfather's experiences during the bombing, but also the personal Veterans' stories, remembering that memory is important for our future!
Come to experience with me the Monte Cassino Bombing and battlefield history tour!

Where you'll be

We will visit together places that people don't know to be so important, for example I will show you where the Captain Foltin moved the German headquarter and where the Indians tried to climb the hill to join the Abbey.
These are places the Veterans showed me when they came back to visit the places in which they fough .
And I will show you a lot of photos about the bombing of the Abbey and of the town, some of them are unknown

Anna was brilliant, very knowledgable and allowed me to gain a clear understanding of both sides of the Battles of Cassino story. She's the best.

Anna picked us up direct from the train station and we were straight into it. As we stopped at significant Cassino battle sites Anna gave us an overview of the battles from many different points of view, Allied, German and local as appropriate which we felt was quite balanced. The battlefields and commonwealth cemetery completed the military side of the tour and we finished up at the Abby which we found spectacular inside. At the end of a great tour Anna dropped us off at our accommodation in the town. Very happy with our experience and highly recommend Anna as your personal guide. So nice and helpful but also knowledgeable and passionate about this subject. Thanks again Anna. Jamie and Karen Falconer Wellington New Zealand

We loved our WWII tour with Anna! She picked us up from the train station, then took us to a lot of sites relevant to the war. She also gave us a tour of the Abbey. She then returned us to the train station and even helped us buy our tickets back to Rome. Anna is very knowledgable about the war and we are so thankful that we took this tour! Thanks, Anna!

My son and I spent 4 days south of Rome exploring WW2 sites. Hands down this was our favorite experience. The passion, knowledge and research she has spent shows. There were so many personal touches and stories. We just wish we could have spent more time. Dont even think twice. Book her.

This was a wonderful, insightful tour, and Anna was an excellent host. I have decent (book-based) knowledge of the four battles of Cassino, and recognizing that Anna was able to go into deeper details, as well as sharing insights gathered from locals and veterans who she has spoken to. Highlights included an emotional visit to the beautiful Commonwealth Cemetery and Memorial and viewing the Rapido river from both the German and American perspectives. Many shorter stops along the way in Cassino town reinforced the challenges facing the Allies, and the final stops at Castle Hill and the monastery itself gave amazing views and demonstrated the obvious strategic importance of the position.
