What you'll do

I'll send you directions and we'll meet at the farmyard where the donkeys live. After introducing the donkeys, you will groom them then fit their little panniers and we'll start the walk with one or two lead reins on each donkey depending on the group size. Unless people book together as a group, we would not take more than eight people per session as this is a micro-group experience, spending a lot of time getting to know the donkeys. We walk for about 30 minutes to a scenic picnic point with panoramic views towards Pen y Fan and the Central Beacons. The walk is fairly easy, through some woodland and then open hilltop meadow with a bit of uneven ground and gentle inclines with one or two steeper parts but we take our time and never rush anyone. The picnic is a light snack meal, usually with crisps, cake, granola bars, fruit and a drink (we can accommodate differing food intolerences with enough notice) During the picnic, the dinkeys will graze nearby and you can pet them or just relax with the view. We return via a walk down the fields before letting the donkeys loose in their yard or field for a roll. The walks can be timed to suit you but generally will start at either 10am or 2pm and last 90 mins - 2 hours. If your preferred date isn't shown, please do get in touch to see whether we can add in a another date to suit you.

Julia

Having lived in the beautiful Brecon Beacons for 14 years, I have worked in the tourism industry locally and also have kept horses for 8 years before acquiring my lovely little pair of Miniature Mediterranean donkeys who love going out with us for an amble in the hills. I love sharing the quiet spaces with amazing views, and will talk for hours about the local history, conservation and habitat, as well as teaching guests about the welfare and wellbeing of the little dinky donkeys.

Where you'll be

In the village of Defynnog, near the farm where we walk the Donkeys, there is The Defynnog Yew which is said to be over 5000 years old and one of the oldest trees in Europe. Defynnog also has a fantastic cafe, The Welsh Rarebit Centre, and two great pubs that serve evening meals.
