What you'll do
Starting at the gate of our organic farm you’ll meet several well known and respected plant species. We’ll continue through our collection of medicinal plants. This is a solid introduction to the traditional uses of rainforest plants and herbs; we’ll cover fiber and food, thatching and natural dye plants as well as those used by local healers. The forest is a living organism and each species fills a particular role in the overall ecology. Stories and folklore of the local cultures confirm this understanding and you’ll leave full of tales and knowledge of these special rainforest plants.
Water or herbal tea.
I’ve been living and working in this forest reserve and farm for the last 12 years, and teaching medicinal plant and forest dweller classes for most of that time. Working with indigenous BriBri and local Afro-Caribbean healers has given me plenty of experience and understanding to share. I typically teach on many retreats as well as offering classes from a couple of hours to week long immersions. This is a great way to experience the rainforest through its plants and the traditions and stories of its peoples. This June, we’ll be joined by the wonderful Sarit Bianca, a herbalist and massage therapist from Australia. Sarit has been living and working in Costa Rica for almost 2 years and has been involved with herbal first aid clinics for that time. She’s been the resident herbalist at Punta Mona Regenerative Agriculture Center.

Where you'll be
The rainforest is a special place, it’s a seething mass of life with the greatest biodiversity on the planet, yet delicate in its complexity. We’ll be walking through areas where we’ll find plants that are steeped in traditional use and folklore. Plants that are still used on a daily basis by local people and healers. The forest is a magical place, step into it and experience it for yourself.
