I'm a specialist in Japanese confections called Wagashi. These sweets are traditionally served with tea and are made from different plant ingredients. I frequently visit the Ningyocho district of Tokyo to research different types of Wagashi. We will visit several shops in this historic district that specialize in tofu, tea, yakitori (skewered chicken), pickles, and, of course, Wagashi. I will present a brief history, introduce you to my favorite Wagashi, and help you find your favorite to make the perfect souvenir. You can expect to experience food and culture that stretches from the present back 100 years. We will also visit several shrines and temples.
