What you'll do

Come aboard Bonaventure II and sail amongst the islands and currents of Strangford Lough where you will see sea birds and other wildlife such as seals. Sit back and relax and I will point out the wildlife to you, or why not have a go at steering the boat or adjusting the sails. I can teach you some of the nautical terms. The choice is yours. This year, I would like to welcome you aboard 'Bonaventure II ' which is a 33 ft long cruising yacht. She replaces Bonaventure I, which was enjoyed by guests last year, and has a more comfortable and roomy cockpit area and a larger cabin for shelter if needed. Strangford Lough is a Marine Nature Reserve with 365 islands, one for every day of the year. It is a haven for bird-life and seals are commonly seen. If you are interested you can hear about Mark's sailing adventures and the sailing heritage of the lough including events and classes of yacht, some built back in 1921.

Mark

I have sailed all my life and I am qualified with a RYA Yachtmaster certificate. I have cruised and raced sailing yachts all over the world. For example, I sailed my previous yacht from Falmouth in England to Seville in Spain with only one stop. I have a passion for the birds and wildlife found around the shores of the Lough and would love to share this with you. I have experience of hosting guests on numerous sailing trips last year with excellent reviews.

Where you'll be

Depending on the weather and tide we might sail up between several islands such as Dun O'Neill or Salt island or alternatively take the ebb tide towards the bar buoy and back with the flood tide. You can often spot seals and cormorants basking on the rocks and we can identify and learn a little about the numerous species of sea bird.
