What you'll do

The Melbourne History Walk takes you on a stroll down one of the city's oldest and most prestigious streets. Exploring the architecture, art, retail and commercial institutions of this central thoroughfare will reveal not only the urban history of Collins St but that of the entire city as it has developed over the last 150 years. From the ‘Paris End’ to the financial district, you will discover how and why this grand tree lined boulevard has held the mantle of Melbourne's premier address since it was laid out as part of the city’s original grid of streets in 1837.

Jacques

I am a documentary filmmaker with a passion for architectural heritage and the built environment. Growing up in Melbourne, I began exploring the city from a young age, fostering a curiosity for its unique architecture. An early introduction to photography enabled the recording of this rich built environment which, in turn, led to a more considered appreciation and study of the city. As chief writer and content provider for Footpath Guides I am constantly searching for interesting built artifacts and the stories they can tell. Join me on an exploration of this fascinating evolving city.
