What you'll do
Beenkeragh is the second-highest peak in Ireland at 1,008 metres (3,300 ft)
I will meet with my hiking group at Kate Kearney's Cottage in The Gap of Dunloe at 09:30. Free car park and public toilets. Nearest shop in Beaufort 3 minutes drive. After checking gear and supplies, we will drive to Lisleibane free car park in 10 minutes where we will start out our walk.
Itinerary:
Distance of 12 km.
Total climbing 950 metres.
Duration 6.5 hours.
On our approach to the mountain we walk into Hag’s Glen for one hour before our first rest, with some scrambling we reach the base of the Hag’s Tooth at 500 metres high.
We then prepare for the summit and the actual climb, with short scrambles and steep climb we will head up via the corrie between Knockbrinnea and Hag’s Tooth Ridge.
From the top we can see the finest views of Beenkeragh Ridge which join to Carrauntoohil within a distance of 1,000 metres, and the beautiful Iveragh Peninsula.
After lunch break at the summit, if the weather is good we could explore some spots on the Beenkeragh Ridge to take some pictures and back to the summit.
Descent to Lisleibane via the northern slopes of Knockbrinnea with amazing views toward Dingle Peninsula and The Atlantic Ocean all the way down.
This strenuous walk is ideal for a person with a good fitness level and hill walking experience.
