What you'll do

Learn the Hidden Ceramic Secrets of Triana

From BarroAzul we offer a workshop in which we will tell you where the Seville pottery tradition comes from, what are the ceramic techniques practiced over centuries and whose fame has transcended our borders.

So, how do we do it?

Firstly, we will tell you a little about the history of Sevillian ceramics. Next, you will be given a practical demonstration of Triana's main ceramic decoration techniques. You will be shown several of the oldest techniques for making 'Cuerda Seca', 'Arista' and 'Painted tile' tiles and you will have the opportunity to paint with yourself. Then, you will decorate your own tiles with two different techniques to take home with you.

You can take your tiles with you, but YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT AT LEAST 24 HOURS .
Our level of English is basic, please be patient with us.

BarroAzul was born thanks to Paula Felizón (anthropologist and ceramist) and Antonio Librero (art historian and cultural manager), who have been working in the world of artistic ceramics from the perspective of their different disciplines for years, and who after collaborating as documentalists for Centro Ceramica Triana, they decided to apply their knowledge and share it to all the visitors to Triana. We also have the collaboration of Honor Edgcombe, a nice British girl who brings her experience as a ceramist in several workshops of artistic creation.

Antonio and Paula did a great job hosting this workshop. We loved hearing about the ceramicists in Seville and enjoyed the extensive hands-on part. With a delightful attitude, they guided us through the process of painting our own ceramic tile. Even though the task seemed scary at first, there were plenty of stencils to choose from, so you don't need to be a talented artists to create a beautiful tile. Highly recommend it!

A totally recommendable and unique experience. In a lovely surrounding our small group got to know the history of the "azulejos" and then spent some very relaxing hours applying two different techniques ourselves.

We really loved our experience with Anna. I chose this experience because it seemed unique and it definitely was. It was a really great way to slow down and relax for a few hours. Anna knows a lot about the craft and shared the local history with us which is something that we really enjoy in general. Her passion and understanding of ceramics is really inspiring, and she guided us while allowing us creative freedom. It was nice to be able to pick up our work whenever we needed to after the 24 hours needed to fire our tiles. I would definitely return and if I lived in Sevilla I would visit the studio often. It’s charming, and seems like a nice atmosphere to escape.

This ceramicist experience was really unique and fitting in Triana, Sevilla. You are given a brief history of the significance of tiles and are educated in spotting them throughout your stay. It is super creative and well-led yet very individual and calming.

Lovely way to learn about Seville’s history and do something fun and creative. So sad we didn’t get to explore this beautiful city but we will be back.
