What you'll do
I will meet with my hiking group at Kate Kearney's Cottage, in The Gap of Dunloe, at 10:00; just 20 minutes drive from Killarney. After I have made sure they have the right hiking footwear and warm-comfortable clothing for the walk, I will discuss our day with them and show them our route clearly on the map.
We will start our 5+ hours walk together at a leisurely pace and I will make sure that everybody is comfortable and happy. We will stop at regular intervals for people to enjoy the scenery, to take pictures, and have some food and drinks.
During the walk I like to talk with my group about hiking issues related to the area, and sites of interest such as standing stones, stone circles or ancient dwelling places.
Purple Mountain stands at 832 metres (2723 ft) with stunning all round views is separated from The MacGillycuddy’s Reeks by the world famous Gap of Dunloe. The whole walk will be a distance of 14 km, total height gain 950 metres, taking about 5.5 hours to complete the walk.
Itinerary: From Kate Kearney’s Cottage we will walk during ½ an hour before we reach the lower slopes of Tomies Mountain, at a height of 450 metres we will contour on the west side of Tomies heading and climbing to the col that links with Purple mountain. After lunch break in the summit and a great view of Killarney National Park the way down will be by the east slopes of Tomies Mountain.
Other things to note
The walk is on open moorland sometimes over wet ground, long grass & heather, and mountain slopes and tracks suitable for a moderate fitness level.
The whole walk will be a distance of 14 km (8.7 miles) total height gain 950 metres (3,117 feet) taking about 5.5 hours to complete the walk.

My friend and I were very impressed with Cesar's purple mountain guided hike. He took us up a lesser known route which gave us spectacular views of the gap of dungloe. He is very knowledgeable of the mountains in the area and we will be asking Cesar to take us up more mountains. Great value for money aswell as we found that other guides were charging more for similar routes in the area. Cesar is very friendly and professional.
