What you'll do
I will meet with my hiking group at Applegreen Gas station, Muckross Road, Dromhale, Killarney, Co. Kerry, V93 EFR7 at 10:00. After I have made sure they have the right footwear (hiking boots in winter or hiking shoes in summer) and hiking comfortable clothing for our walk, I will discuss our day with them and show them our route clearly on the map. From this meeting point we have to drive 10 minutes more to the starting point near Tooreencormick battle site. Please, bring your own transport.
We will start our 5 hours walk together at a leisurely pace and I will make sure that everybody is comfortable and happy. We will stop at regular intervals for people to enjoy the scenery, to take pictures, and have some food and drinks.
During the walk I like to talk with my group about flora, fauna, and sites of interest such as standing stones, stone circles or ancient dwelling places.
We will walk the most direct route to the summit via Devil’s Punch Bowl, and climbing the steep eastern arête to the Mangerton plateau with a great view over Horse’s Glen. If weather is good, we will have lunch break at the summit with views of Kenmare Bay, Beara Peninsula, The MacGillycuddy’s Reeks, Killarney National Park.
Every one of my guided walks has its own particular places of outstanding beauty. I always aim to make my walks a very special and memorable experience for my clients.
Other things to note
The walk is on open moorland and mountain, suitable for a moderate fitness level.
It will be a distance of 11.5 km, total height gain 730 metres, and 5 hours duration approx.
Minimun Hiking gear required: Hiking boots in winter or shoes in summer, and Waterproof jacket.
Your own transport.
