What you'll do

Debbie Rudolph is a qualified Art and Textile teacher who runs regular workshops for beginner weavers. Join her in her Falmouth Weaving Studio where you can enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the Textile Studio while learning a new skill. During these workshops you will learn tapestry weaving basics and decorative elements of weaving. Experience a range of colours and textured yarns. How to warp and set up a lap loom, use tabby, soumak and rya and other knotting techniques. Produce a woven hanging with the focus on texture, pattern and colour. How to remove weaving from frame and finish ends. Hang weaving from a piece of local Cornish beach drift wood. Materials are included, looms are for course use only.

Debbie Rudolph is an experienced Teacher and Textile Designer-Maker with a bold approach to creating unique handwoven, individual textiles using traditional weaving techniques. After graduating from St. Martins London, Debbie worked as a freelance Woven Textile Designer and sold her handwoven items through private sales, international trade fairs, exhibitions and galleries. Debbie then went on to train as a Secondary School teacher at the University of London, she taught Art and Design and Textiles in Hackney, London for 10 years before relocating to Cornwall. Debbie is a member of the Cornish Craft Association and a member of the Poly Guild in Falmouth, she sells her unique textiles throughout Cornwall. This year Debbie was featured in make:Cornwall, a book about the joy of the handmade. Debbie runs workshops from her Falmouth studio.

Where you'll be

We will conduct our workshop in a beautiful purpose built, black timber light filled Textile studio in Debbie's Cornish garden. Its a source of inspiration for textile lovers and is home to a number of different types of looms and other weaving equipment. It is not open to the public except for Cornwalls Open Studios, once a year, as this is Debbie actual working studio.
