What you'll do

We will go on a literary exploration of historical Greenwich, inspired by the “The Secrent Agent” and other novels by the celebrated 19th-century author Joseph Conrad. Starting with the magnificent old sailing ship ‘Cutty Sark’ and legends of the famous ‘tea races’, we will dive into the fascinating stories of Victorian Britain at the height of its power. We will descend into the atmospheric foot-tunnel under the Thames, listen to musicians practicing in the former Royal Navy College, learn all about the romantic love affairs of Admiral Lord Nelson and climb up to the Greenwich Observatory: where modern Time was invented – and with it, what we have come to know as globalisation. It’s not by chance that this is also the sight of the first terrorist attack attempted on British soil! Throughout the tour we will immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of Victorian London and seafairing through passages of Conrad’s novels and trace his journey from 16-year old Polish runaway turned sailor to becoming one of the greatest novelists in the English language.

Annina

I‘m a writer and filmmaker based in London since I graduated from Oxford university. I have written audio walking tours and guided tours in England, Germany, Georgia and the Middle East but I especially love exploring my local neighbourhood and the fascinating stories it holds. Having studied Philosophy, Politics, Economics and Literature, I always look for connections between everyday details and the larger developments that shape our world - and for the good stories! As an experienced theatre and poetry performer I enjoy drawing people into different worlds and making new acquaintances.

Where you'll be

We will walk right along the Thames, past the Cutty Sark sailing ship, the Greenwich foot-tunnel, through the impressive site of the Old Royal Naval College, stopping at the cozy Trafalgar Tavern Pub before climbing to the top of Greenwich Park to admire the stunning panorama view of the city of London.
