What you'll do
This is a walking experience where you will walk amongst the old slate quarries that dominate Llanberis and have played a major role in defining its history and culture. Weaving our way through the quarries you will see remnants from the mines such as slate filled trolleys, 'gwaliau' (shelters where the slate was split) and numerous ladders and chains used while the mine was active. While learning about the history of the local slate mining industry, you will also enjoy breathtaking scenes and view parts of the mines that look other worldly.
I'm the owner of Adventure Awaits, a small outdoor company based in the heart of Snowdonia National Park. I've been an active trekker, runner, climber and mountaineer for over 16 years and hold British Mountain Leader qualifications. It is the many years of experience, intimate knowledge of the local area and plant life combined with endless enthusiasm as I guide you through Snowdonia's fascinating mountains
You will be treated to home made cake and teas and coffee's while we walk around the quarries
Where you'll be
We will start our walk in the National Slate Museum that provides a good introduction to slate quarrying and workings. We will then walk to the beautiful and small Vivian Quarry and its flood pit. From here we will continue to the much larger Dinorwig Quarry where you will get impressive views of the massive workings
