About your host

I'm a professional architectural conservator who has been working to preserve and protect historic buildings in Washington, DC since 2006. I'm a frequent speaker at conferences, panels, and lecture series nationwide, and my writing has been published in outlets such as the Smithsonian Institute Press. I'm a passionate advocate for architecture and I'm excited to share it with you.

What we’ll do

You'll set out on a two-mile architectural walking tour that will offer an introduction to Capitol Hill that only a local could provide. Forget the mega-monuments and museums; you can see those another day. Let me tell you the story of Capitol Hill through its alleys and stables, its local landmarks, tiny streets you might have missed and vernacular buildings, large and small. We'll make a total…

What else you should know

Based on previous tours, I expect this experience should take about two hours. It could take more or less time depending on how quickly everyone feels like walking, how many questions we discuss, or how many photos we take. I am happy to work with you on the pace.

What to bring

Comfortable walking shoes
Umbrella or rain gear if the forecast looks drizzly

Where you'll be

We'll convene outside the Hill Center (formerly the Old Naval Hospital); consider grabbing a snack or beverage from Little Pearl (located in the former carriage house) before we depart. Then we're off to: - Marine Commandant's House - F Street Terrace - The Maples - Eastern Market - Library Court/Millers Court - Frederick Douglass House - Belmont-Paul Women's Equality National Monument* *Open to the public Wed - Sun, 9am - 5pm; free admission
