What you'll do
Discover Stellenbosch's hidden gems while being chauffeured by James, an international winemaker with over 12 vintages under his belt. Howzit guys!? As your personal host, I'll guide you through exclusive behind-the-scenes cellar tours of Kanonkop, Remhoogte and a special hidden wine estate just re-emerging from obscurity. We'll have the opportunity to meet winemakers, owners and viticulturists providing insight into these historic operations. First things first, we'll meet in central Stellenbosch at 930 am to get acquainted and to grab coffee and biltong for the road. Next we'll stop at Kanonkop and tour their unique cellar that started a legend. After we'll tour Remhootge wine estate and enjoy lunch while basking in pristine views of African wildlife and scenery. Lastly we'll visit an upstart winemaker who is reviving a historical estate to help preserve the vanishing history of the Cape Winelands. While tasting unique blending components, the best cheeses the winelands has to offer will complement each wine. Throughout the day we'll be discussing the dynamic and evolving state of the South Africa wine industry as we traverse South Africa's ancient terroir, novel winemaking and intriguing cultural history.
Howzit, guys? My name is James and I've been making wine around the world for over a decade. As a winemaker, I've worked in the best wine Meccas ranging from Napa Valley California, Casablanca Valley Chile, Yakima Valley Washington State , and Marlborough New Zealand. After working the 2015 & 2016 vintages here in Stellenbosch, I fell in love with this beautiful and dynamic place, emigrating in January 2017. Since then, I've been creating a boutique wine brand while working towards my Masters at Stellenbosch University. I've just bottled my maiden 2018 Chenin blanc, and recently finished the 2019 vintage. I love to travel and experience new wines every chance I can; if you're interested in knowing more about my career and passion, please check out my instagram @winedude_of_stellies https://www.instagram.com/winedude_of_stellies

We start the day with an exclusive guided cellar tour of Kanonkop wine estate, one of the premier producers the Cape has to offer. Afterwards, we visit a gem on the Simonsberg, Remhootge Wine Estate, where we will meet the Bouchard's, a two brother team whose family has owned the estate since 1806. After lunch at Remhootge, we cut up to a re-emerging wine estate that is producing absolute gems from hidden vineyards around the Cape.

I work with wineries that I trust to, year after year, create special wines which represent the best of Cape Winelands. I also value these establishments for their continued social responsibility to provide adequate terms of employment and benefits to their staff.
