What you'll do
I will meet you on Kilmurrin Beach. It's a lovely little cove with plenty of parking and easy access. It's ideal for sand art. We will discuss the design that I will usually have prepared in advance (sometimes the drawings are impromptu). With your assistance and perhaps some string I will create the outlines using a stick. Together we will bring the artwork to life using garden rakes. Afterwards we will view and photograph the sand art from a vantage point on the nearby cliff. Weather permitting I will also capture aerial footage using my drone. Now it's time for a cuppa on the shore! I will bring a basket of refreshments. The whole process takes about three hours but feel free to stay longer. I like to spend some time with the drawing before the tide reclaims the sand. I'd be happy to recommend other things to do and see in the area. As my assistant on the artwork I will offer you a genuine insight into the process involved. This is a very mindful experience. You will be aware of the tide and your surroundings but you will be immersed in the simple but rewarding act of raking the sand.
I'm a full time professional artist specialising in environmental art. My family and I run an art school called The Art Hand. It's located in a spectacular region called The Copper Coast in County Waterford, Ireland. The area is designated by UNESCO as a Global Geopark. At The Art Hand we host mosaic parties for groups using recycled items and we teach stained glass. We run many collaborative projects in schools and communities around the country. Many of our environmental projects are based in the outdoors. I'm most passionate about sand art. I create these massive temporary drawings using a garden rake on the beaches that we are so lucky to be surrounded by. It's a very mindful art form. I love being connected with nature in such an intimate way. I’d be delighted to share a sand art experience with you on The Copper Coast.
I will bring a basket of refreshments. I like to relax afterwards with a tea of coffee on the shore! Treats are so much…
An adjustable garden rake. A Facebook photo album of the event. I will email you a special souvenir high resolution image…
Where you'll be
Kilmurrin Beach is a lovely little cove on the main coast road. There is plenty of parking and easy access via a wheelchair accessible ramp. It's ideal for sand art, it's safe for swimmers and popular with surfers. The views from the adjacent cliff are spectacular. The fauna on the cliff top is unspoilt with a bed of Springy Grass, Sea Pink, Gorse and Montbretia. Also up here don't miss the dramatic blow hole known locally as the Goat's Jail.

Up to 5 guests ages 8 and up can attend. Parents may also bring children under 2 years of age. You will probably walk somewhere between 3 and 6 kilometers around the beach at a leisurely pace while you are raking the sand. It's not particularly…
The Copper Coast is a spectacular but remote location. There are not too many amenities in the area and Internet and Phone signal is often poor. Be prepared to immerse yourself in nature!
