What you'll do
We will meet you at your hotel in the old city (please provide hotel information when you book the trip). Transfer will depend on group size: private car or Songthaew (local red truck taxi). We will get an early start, before 7am, by offering alms to Buddhist monks and novices at the bottom of Doi Suthep Mountain. The trip continues with a local breakfast at a morning market before heading to Wat Suandok for a “monk chat” session. The monks are very knowledgeable and friendly. You’ll learn about the Buddhist’s life and the daily routine of the monks here. You’re welcome to ask as many questions as you like about Thai culture and Buddhism. After an hour or so chatting with a monk, we will have time to explore Wat Suandok. The royal temple consists of a beautiful golden pagoda and a principle Buddha image, as well as the Lanna royal family’s cemetery and the Buddhist Monk University. We’ll take you to another temple you should see – Wat Umong. The tunnel temple is an historical site dating back over 500 years and is located in the midst of a city forest. You’ll enjoy a story-telling session of this amazing tunnel and Chiang Mai culture before heading back to your hotel.
Amy & Fah & Vannee
Hi! We are Amy and Thongbang, professional tour guides with TAT licenses, who have lived in Chiang Mai more than 20 years. We grew up in Buddhist families and with the Thai culture. We have learned and currently practice “the middle path” to make life easy and happy. We have learned “disengagement” and how to live in the “truth of nature”. Come along with us to talk to a knowledgeable Buddhist monk, and delve deeper into Buddhist teachings and a monk’s lifestyle – and learn how practice Buddhism like a Chiang Mai local.
