What you'll do
We will register each traveler with Park Operations. Transportation will be provided from the city of Cuenca - to El Cajas National Park - and back to Cuenca. You will enjoy a guided tour of a remote valley with a beautiful lake, towering cliffs, varieties of indigenous flowers and trees, wild horses and alpacas, a meandering river and distant waterfalls. We will plan your trip to include hiking, stops for rest, views and photos, or meditation, and breaks for lunch and snacks. We are happy to take personal or group photos of our guests, too!
I have spent 25 years passionately seeking the gems of earth’s natural beauty. I am an expert backpacker, logging thousands of hours and miles in the backcountry of North and South America. For the last 4 years, I have devoted myself to exploring El Cajas National Park, one of the most amazing places on earth. The Andes in Ecuador is an exotic land that presents many challenges, as it is not heavily explored. Besides learning about the best locations and how to get to them, I have also learned how to take out all of the guesswork for travelers (there is much misleading information on the internet). As an experienced, local guide, my objective is to provide a safe, well-informed and enjoyable experience to other outdoor enthusiasts.
We will supply snacks like trail mix, fruit, and granola bars. Lunch will include sandwich, cheese, etc. Please be sure to…
Depending on size of group, our transportation will be by SUV or large van.
Where you'll be
Once we are in the valley, we will trek along an ancient Inca trail. Along the way, we will take diversions to view Lake Llaviucu, the ruins of an old abandoned brewery, and meadows where horses or alpacas graze. We also like to take rest stops where views of the valley, cliffs, and fields are especially nice. These places are well beyond the park trail most visited.
