What you'll do
Arrive at an historic college in the leafy theatre district of Nottingham, near the Playhouse, cathedral and a short walk to restaurants and shops. You'll be warmly welcomed, introduced to whichever fellow singing enthusiasts are in today's group, and do some gentle physical stretches, posture and breathing activities to help get your body ready. We start with fun technique warmups and I'll help everyone find their "range" (you NEVER have to sing on your own!) so you know whether you have a low, middle or high voice. Then each section learns their harmonies for the songs, totally by ear, with no need to read music! We never use written music, so we learn by call and response, in the natural voice style. It will be fun, informal and welcoming and the songs will be pop, rock, jazz, swing or gospel. We may add rhythm with a bit of clapping, clicking or stomping if we want to add a bit more groove! We have a break in the middle so you can get a tea/coffee/drink/snacks from the vending machines and there's an outdoor courtyard to get some sunshine if you like, and then we'll learn the second song of the day. I make a video of the group singing the finished songs together because it always sounds fantastic by the end of the workshop and you'll want to show your friends! (Again, NO obligation to be in the video!) A ton of fun singing in utterly glorious harmony!
Hi there! I am the founder and leader of the Nottingham Voice Collective- a series of one-off harmony singing workshops for all. I also run three acappella choirs in the East Midlands and am an international recording artist. I've toured extensively as a singer/songwriter with songs from my three original albums, and as a backing vocalist with touring bands at some of the biggest venues and festivals in the UK and performed for Archbishop Desmond Tutu and UN delegates in Paris and Deke Sharon at the Lincoln Center in New York with my choirs. I am passionate about acapella singing, and proving to people who think they can't sing that they can!
We provide comfortable space, seating, projector and screen for you to see what we're singing. The venue has toilets, vending…
