What you'll do
Art is becoming increasingly popular recreational activity as more people discover the benefits: opportunities to relax, to feel a sense of accomplishment and pride, to improve fine-motor skills, develop a meaningful life-long hobby, and so on. I offer group art classes for adults and children 14+ of any levels. The class is designed to “fit all levels” — most of my students have never painted beyond an elementary school art curriculum. No previous skills are required — as long as you can hold a brush or a pencil, and are ready to have fun messing up with paper or canvas, come in and create! Complete set of materials for each class is provided. This is perfect for travelers and for anyone who would like to give it a try without long commitment and investing in art supplies. Bring nothing but a smile! During 905 Studio dynamic 2-hour workshop, you’ll learn some tricks and techniques and immediately apply it to create a vibrant piece of art you take home. In WATERCOLOR classes, we explore lines and brushstrokes, apply watercolor washes, use masking fluid, and create mixed-media works combining watercolor with ink pen outlines. In the Drawing class, we use charcoal pencil and white conte on toned paper to create full-contrast tonal rendering. In Oil Painting class you make a landscape or still life alla prima. Maximum group size is set to 10 people.
I'm a Pittsburgh artist and the owner of 905 Studio in the Highland Park neighborhood. I've been painting and drawing since early childhood. I studied fine art at the Nicholas Roerich Art College (back then, Leningrad Serov Art College) in St. Petersburg, Russia, and, after moving to the U.S.A. in 1995, continued my art education and fine art practice. My artworks were exhibited locally and nationally. My illustrations are featured at interpretive panels along Pittsburgh's famous Grandview Avenue on Mt. Washington. I'm exhibiting at the juried art festivals in Pittsburgh since 2009, and won Juror's Choice Award from the Three Rivers Arts Festival in 2017. I've been giving art lessons to adults and children for many years, teaching traditional painting and drawing techniques.
