What you'll do
Almost everyone these days has a smartphone and uses social media so I want to show you Siena via your smartphone and teach you how to take great travel pictures, abstracts, details and street photography . We’ll meet in the famous Piazza del Campo and start there as it’s a paradise for photographers .. the stunning palatial buildings, the geometric patterns in the circular stone paved piazza itself, the children chasing the pigeons, the people sitting relaxing in the sun, the Torre di Mangia, the fountain .. a constantly changing canvas of light and images. I’ll help you with compositions and making the most of the available light. I love helping people get creative with their shots. After the piazza we’ll take a stroll through some of the lesser known streets of Siena, looking for interesting details and hidden corners in this medieval City. After an hour or so of taking photographs we can sit, enjoy a coffee (maybe take a few foodie snaps) and I’ll talk you through some editing tips and tricks to enhance the shots you’ve taken during our walkabout. I love the Snapseed app so we’ll use that to edit a selection of your best shots. If you have Instagram or Facebook we can also talk about layouts and posting. We’ll then do a final half hour of photography with a mini project or theme in mind.

I’ve been a photographer for 30 years and am passionate about photographing people, abstract details, street photography and food. I’m British but have been in Tuscany in the Siena region for 16 years. I love to travel and when I do it’s all about the food, the wine and the photography. I’ve worked for many years with professional cameras but have recently fallen in love with the camera capacity on my iPhone and am using it more and more, including for competitions. My pet hate is bad photography on instagram so I decided it would be fun to help travelers improve their photography. Who doesn’t use their smartphone for photos these days?! I’ve been using my iPhone exclusively for a year for photography, learnt all the tips and tricks, found great editing apps and built up a portfolio on instagram. Now it’s time to impart that knowledge.
Italy is famous for its coffee so we’ll enjoy a cappuccino, latte or simple espresso together as part of the experience.

Where you'll be
We meet at Fonte Gaia in Piazza del Campo in the centre of Siena. We’ll spend some time here in the piazza as there is so much to shoot; it lends itself to so many aspects of photography. Then a stroll in the side streets before taking a break for a coffee where we’ll sit for the second part of the mini workshop and i’ll show you how to edit and do instagram layouts to make the most of the day’s shots. A final 30 mins photographing with a theme.
Things to keep in mind
Any experience can be cancelled and fully refunded within 24 hours of purchase, or at least 7 days before the experience starts.
Always communicate through Airbnb. To protect your payment, never transfer money or communicate outside the Airbnb website or app.
Up to 6 guests ages 14 and up can attend. I have some fixed times here on airbnb but don't hesitate to ask for other times of day as I am available for this experience for Siena and Montalcino and can juggle times to suit client requests.
You’ll need to take a picture of yourself that matches the photo on your ID. This is so Airbnb can confirm who’s actually going on the experience. You’ll only have to do this once.
Don’t worry if you have no photographic experience. You just need your iPhone/Smartphone. I’ll teach you about composition, natural light and tons of fantastic phone camera functions. Then it’s up to you to be as creative as you like. If you can, download Snapseed the editing app before we meet.
