What you'll do
This walk is aimed to make a connection between old-cool Haight Street, famous for Hippies and the Summer of Love, with new-cool Hayes Valley, a Hipster Mecca that has been transformed into one of SF’s top hip neighborhoods in which to live and hang out. After completing this walk, guests will gain a familiarity with these two different neighborhoods, either to check them off their SF to-do list or feel confident to return and explore on their own. We start our walk on Haight Street, passing by funky stores, cool murals, and lots of tie-dye! I will take us off of Haight Street a few of times along the way so that we can photograph painted ladies, super colorful Victorians that make the Haight so famous. We will also pay homage to the homes of the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix. We will talk about the Summer of Love and why thousands of young people flocked to the area in the 60’s. We walk the length of hippie Haight until we turn onto Octavia and walk up to Hayes Street. We see how different Hayes Valley is, how urban and modern cool, versus the older hippie Haight. We travel from Hippie to Hipster! In Hayes Valley we will explore an urban parklet, visit the unique and urban phenomenon of the shipping container turned restaurant/store, admire the street art and notice the very different types of shops and eateries that this area has to offer!
I am a San Francisco native obsessed with walking! I have been exploring San Francisco by foot for as long as I can remember and I have applied my pedestrian vision to explorations of Paris, London, Rome. I have created and led Architectural walking tours in the South of France and I have taken many walking tours in cities all over Europe. This is not just the best way to explore a city, it is the only way to be comfortably introduced to a city. Instead of being glued to google maps, I am here to show you the pleasures of San Francisco on foot. I want to take visitors to places not on the usual “tourist” list. My aim is to show you the city through the eyes of a native and take you to places San Franciscan’s themselves like to frequent. I like to make physical (walking) and cultural connections between various points in the city.

Where you'll be
We visit the length of Haight Street (especially the hippie bit with its funky shops), and parts of the Haight Ashbury Neighborhood (for the colorful Victorians & former homes of musicians), and then walk onto Hayes Street and visit the modern/cool neighborhood of Hayes Valley. The tour ends in Hayes Valley, there are a number of great Restaurants that I will personally recommend to guests so they can stay after and grab a bite on their own.
