Welcome aboard Pieces of Eight! She is located in the heart of Watkins Glen, at a dock directly on the waterfront. Her interior is vintage and fun. Walk down the street to a local brewery or relax on your floating mini-cottage. After a long day of kayaking, wine tasting, or hiking the gorge, head back to relax at your private mini-yacht.
Pieces Of Eight is a 30’ long 1978 Tollycraft vintage trawler that is brimming with character. She has been well-preserved and retains a LOT of her late 70’s character which is why we love her so! Despite her age, she is continuously being updated to provide you with modern-day comforts. If you’re looking to get an authentic Finger Lakes experience on the water and are ready to break away from the standard hotel stay, this is it!
Although POE has all of the standard amenities you would expect, staying aboard a boat is innately different than your average overnight. While we feel that you will absolutely enjoy your stay, we ask that you PLEASE READ the full FAQ below to be sure that you know what to expect.

Q: Sleeping quarters?
A: POE has two twin-XL bunks in the main sleeping cabin, which can easily be converted into a queen bed. (***PLEASE NOTE: If you are 6’2” or taller, you may not fit comfortably.) These mattresses were recently replaced with custom memory foam for maximum comfort. There is also a pullout sofa in the galley that can accommodate a third guest. The twin beds are made with fresh linens and blankets before you arrive, and extra blankets stocked away for the pullout sofa. Yes, you can feel the WAVES as you sleep depending on the weather.
Q: Toilet / shower?
A: There is a bathroom on board with a toilet and sink, however the shower is located in the marina building approximately 20 paces from the boat. The shower is relatively new and very nice. The shower is exclusively for marina tenants only (that includes you), and are seldom used by others in the marina. We DO provide fresh towels and basic toiletries, such as shampoo, body wash, etc. for you to use during your stay!
Q: Is there a kitchen?
A: Yes! The kitchen is small yet well equipped. There is a oversized mini-fridge and freezer, coffee maker, coffee grinder, an electric griddle, a 3-tiered electric steamer (you can make an entire meal in this at once), a waffle maker, cutting boards, tea, some standard seasonings, cups, coffee mugs, plates, bowls, plenty of utensils (forks, spoons, knives, spatulas), etc. There is plenty of cupboard space to store your goodies during your stay. If there is something in particular you are looking for, just ask!
Q: Waves and boat rocking.
A: Waves come with the territory, so don’t expect to be totally stationary. Things are generally pretty mild unless it’s windy or stormy outside. We've installed line snubbers which minimize line jerking and help reduce movement during a windy day. ****NOTE: If you are a very light sleeper and feel the waves will disrupt your sleep -- PLEASE DO NOT BOOK!
Q: The weather was bad during our stay, can we stay another night for free or get a refund?
A: Absolutely NOT. As much as we would love to have control over the weather for your stay, we don't. Please do not ask us for a refund or a free stay because the weather wasn't the greatest. We don't pay our dock fees, maintenance, and other expenditures on free stays.
Q: Will the boat move when I get on board?
A: Yes, the boat will subtly rock from side to side and then stop. Be aware of this! Make sure you have your guard up when walking around on POE. There are many hard surfaces to grab on the boat to stabilize walking in the back cockpit, interior salon, galley, and v-berth.
Also, be VERY! VERY! VERY! CAREFUL! on the topsides of the boat, especially after it has rained. These surfaces will become EXTREMELY SLIPPERY for shoes that aren't designed for boat surfaces. TAKE EXTREME CARE!
A: NO SMOKING! Smoking is incredibly dangerous near boats due to the possibility of igniting fumes you may not even be aware of. Boat explosions spread quickly…this is not something you want to be responsible for. However, you can smoke by your vehicle. Please do not throw the cigarette butts on the ground, please dispose of them properly.
We also do not want the interior of POE to smell of smoke, so please be respectful (thank you!). We give a thorough check after each guest checks out and will retain the security deposit if we detect any traces of smoke within the vessel. Yes, this includes e-cigarettes and vapes.
Q: Where can we hang out?
A: The galley (main interior area), back deck (transom), and swim platform. You are also welcome to hang out on the main shared marina dock overlooking the lake.
Q: Can we swim near the boat?
A: Absolutely! Just drop the swim ladder into the water from the swim platform and swim all day as you watch the tourists and the boats motor around the lake.
*Please be advised there isn’t a lifeguard on duty! All swimming will be at your own risk! Be sure to always wear a life jacket while swimming. ALSO, wear aquatic protective shoes as there are razor sharp Zebra Muscles on the lake floor and will easily cut your hands and feet if you’re not careful!
A: CAN’T BEAT IT!! Right on the waterfront AND also in the heart of downtown Watkins Glen. Pieces of Eight sits calmly in a private marina looking out to the historic pier and harbor. Leave your car safely parked in its spot as you take a walk across the street into downtown Watkins Glen and enjoy the many bars and restaurants that line the street. This accommodation is perfect for people looking for the peace and tranquility of relaxing on the waterfront while still being within a moments walk to both the waterfront and downtown establishments.
Q: I’ve never stayed on a boat before - is it comfortable?
A: Absolutely!! POE is equipped with heat and A/C, a small yet well-equipped kitchen, a cozy dinette table for eating inside, new memory-foam mattresses and bedding, a mini-fridge, and a marine-head (toilet). While there is not a traditional shower on-board, there is a nice private shower on premise that is for marina tenants only (that includes you during your stay). If you’re expecting a 5-star luxury hotel, this may not be your thing. If you’re looking for a fun and unique experience right on the water, this is TOTALLY your thing! You are at the lake after all…
Q: I’m a Blogger / Photographer / Famous Instagrammer… will you give me a complimentary stay in return for a review?
A: No. Please don’t ask. We don’t pay our slip rent with your blog posts.
Q: Will you partner with my local company or buy my advertising?
A: We get penalized through Airbnb if we don’t respond to all inquiries which means we must respond to your spam. Don't send it and waste our time.
Q: Any restaurants close by?
A: SO MANY! Watkins Glen is thriving with foodie favorites, many of which are mere minutes walking distance from the boat. The area is very diverse, so you can find everything from a quick slice of pizza to hand-crafted, farm-to-table fare. We grew up in this area, so let us know if you’re looking for something in particular we’ll point you in the right direction!
Q: Why is the price so different for my dates?
A: Airbnb automatically adjusts our prices based on the date, availability, and events going on in the area. Dates that are higher in demand tend to be priced higher than others.
Q: Heat? Air Conditioning?
A: Yes, POE has both heat and air conditioning, so rest assured you will be comfortable inside regardless of the temperature outdoors!
Q: We are experienced boaters – can we take POE out for a drive?
A: Sorry, but no. Our insurance doesn’t permit it. However, there are plenty of boat rental options in the area.
Q: Can I check-in earlier / check-out late?
A: We can’t make any promises, but we will try our best to accommodate your requests if there are no guests directly before / after you.
Q: Can we fish from the dock / boat?
A: Heck yeah! Fishing from the dock is also allowed as long as you are mindful of other vessels in the marina. However, keep in mind that we do not supply any fishing equipment, so BYO. There are a few local marinas and hardware stores that carry everything. Walmart is also right down the street, but we like to support the local guys. You’ll find that the local shops are what makes the area so charming.
Q: How is it different than a house or hotel?
A: It's a boat, so expect the boat to rock if the lake is not calm, even when you are sleeping. There may be noises and smells that you'd expect from a boat (engines, pumps, AC, the sound of waves hitting the hull, etc.). Although we are constantly looking her over for things in need of maintenance and repair, we rely on our guests to notify us if ASAP you see something out of service. The sooner we know, the sooner we can fix it!
Q: Do you allow pets?
A: Unfortunately, we can no longer allow pets at this time. Sorry!
Q: Is there a quiet-hour?
A: Yes. 10PM is quiet hour, although you are a guest in the marina, so we ask that you be respectful of the neighbors at all times. This isn’t to say you can’t have fun or listen to music, just don’t have your own personal rock concert at the marina. There is often (very good) live music on the waterfront and at a few of the downtown bars and restaurants if you need some volume!
Q: Handicap accessible?
A: Unfortunately, no. This is simply due to the nature of the dock and boat. There are 3 steps to get into the boat and you will need to have decent balance as the boat will move slightly as you step aboard.
A: Yes, there is enough parking for one vehicle. The parking lot is only a few steps from the dock where the boat is located.
Q: Is there a reference guide or house manual for when we stay?
A: There sure is! You can use the Airbnb House Manual or head over to our online version at:
Q: Is POE just for Airbnb?
A: No way! POE is our own personal vessel that we decided to share when we don’t have time to use her. We bought POE in 2016 when we graduated from RIT in Rochester, NY. We have both been boating on Seneca our entire lives and decided it was time to get our own boat. We absolutely love older boats, so we knew we had to have her. She just turned 40 this year (wow!), so please be kind to her when staying aboard! Thanks!
If there is anything we did not answer either through the pictures or the FAQ, please feel free to contact us. We typically respond within the hour.
