Ancestral home was rebuilt after being bombed during 2nd WW in 1947 and recent restoration started in 2007 to provide homely ambience to guests. Home is in the heart of city, ideal to try out restaurants offering local & vegetarian food at walking distance including taxi/bus stands. Asia's only women's market IMA Market, the historic Shamu Makhong, the statue of the then Maharaja Bhagyachandra & Kangla Fort, the sacred place to learn the rich heritage and culture of Manipur are very closeby.
“This is a great place to stay. It fits in the budget of all types of guests. The location is superb as it is in the heart of the city, just opposite Ima Market. Shekhar is a great host who will take care of you very much. Right from providing directions, local tips, restaurant tips, all arrangements regarding your travel in Imphal and Manipur.. he can do it all. The property is super clean. I would definitely stay there if I visit Imphal again.”
There are three rooms (Hearth of Imphal 2 & Hearth of Imphal-Attic) [book separately if guests are more then 2] with a capacity of 5-6 persons (charged per person). Guests can use the three common baths with hot water, one kitchen space, one dining space and common area with plenty of books to read. No TV. Wi-Fi only. The lawn with food garden & little pond is open guests. Ask if you want to help in the food garden. If you are sharing a room with a stranger, you might need to make adjustments.
“The location is excellent. We got all the facility of being in the centre of Imphal yet it was quiet. Ram and Nandini are wonderful hosts always helping with their tips and guidance. Starting from how to reach their home to visiting Loktak or shopping, they helped us in every step by giving direction and at times,by drawing a map.The complimentary breakfast was too good. We asked them to arrange dinner for us. That dinner was delicious. The place was very clean and beautifully decorated. Everything was good but mostly we love the warmth or Ram and Nandini. We felt as if we were staying with our friends. If anyone is visiting Imphal, this is the place to be.”
Located in Mantripukhri, Imphal East, which is soon to become the centre of the city. It has a serenity and ambiance of it's own, and my house is located in a large compound. It is easily accessible, and transport, both public and private are available. It takes a mere ten minutes to reach both the local market and department stores. It is surrounded by places of worship, like the Cathedral, temple and mosque. There are several fast food eateries, restaurants and hotels in the vicinity.
“Prof Irene has a very nicely decorated house with a big garden. Guests are offered a private room with a separate entrance. The room is richly decorated with a very large attached bathroom. Such comfort comes at a rate that is the minimum price by manipur standards. But my purpose of staying there was more than that, to know a person who has a different origin but married a local and settled there and integrated into the local culture. Moreover she was a professor of history so she can tell you a lot about Manipur.”
