Welcome to our cozy little place right at the banks of the mighty Mekong River! We will help you with all of your questions and love to show you around in our village and we can also organize tours, a cooking class and onward transport. Our island is very traditional and there are no roads, only paths and little villages. If you want a taste of local Lao life on an island in the Mekong: welcome to Ban Thamakheb (village), Don Som (island), Si Phan Don (4000 Islands) in the far south of Laos!
“We are so happy we had the opportunity to spend some time with Tanoi and Sander in the island of Don Som. In their place we found an oasis of peaceful river life. Our cabin was spacious, pleasantly cool, and had a balcony with two hammocks overlooking the river. The bed was big and comfortable. The shared bathroom was spacious, clean and had a nice shower. Upon our arrival Sander was waiting for us with a welcome drink of ice cold rice whisky and beer. He struck us as a very nice guy with whom we spent many hours talking. He told us he’d been living in Laos for 7 years already, and became a member of Tanoi’s family who live nearby. Due to his extended experience living among Laotians, the conversations with Sander were a great opportunity for us to learn about traditions and culture. He also gave us a lot of nice tips for our future travel through central and northern Laos. We went for a walk around the small village nearby, visited the Buddhist temple, explored the rice fields and petted a Buffalo. The people we met on the island were very polite, always greeting us with a smile and saying hello (unfortunately the only thing we know how to say in their language). We felt a completely different vibe from local people than in the more touristic islands of Don Det and Don Khon which we visited earlier. The food prepared by our host family was tasty and fresh. There is free drinking water available, and reasonably priced Beerlao to keep you entertained as you watch the villagers braving the powerful Mekong river in their tiny boats and using artisanal fishing techniques.”

“Host Martin is very polite and helpful. There was nothing bad about this inn. Song of birds and children of goats ... Kittens etc. nice morning. There is also a kitchen. Refrigerator too. Also bluetooh speakers. Especially the refrigerator was special. This island needs a refrigerator.A cute dog will greet you with a singing voice of joy when you return home. The dog is very humble. But I want food.It was our happiness to help the dogs feed.Dreaming of the day back again☺️thank you &thank you martin”

“We chose Yves's house temporarily. It was after 21:00 that night, and we were very grateful to him for welcoming us. We drank together, watched the blood moon on the Mekong river and chatted freely. The two rooms at Yves are very clean and tidy. We chose a single set of small bamboo house (room with river view). The bed, table and wardrobe are all made of bamboo, which is very elegant. The next morning, Yves and his neighbors prepared a perfect breakfast for us, which is unique to Belgium. Please try it if you are recommended to stay here.”
