“Sara’s farm is what AirBnB is about. -A beautiful mountain farm off the beaten path (literally). -Amazing views with crisp mountain air. We could sit on the porch of our guesthouse all day. -A wonderful family including Sara, her daughters, and husband Edgar who was a wonderful tour guide. -Her dogs and cats who are amazing, but also trained not to bother guests unless you want to play with them! This working coffee and dairy farm is an absolute treat. Please do the coffee tour to see how Edgar and his family still grow coffee the “old school” way. We look forward to returning!”

“Marlene's place is well located, with a good view of Matagalpa. She is just up the hill from the Carlos Fonseca Museum, which is free to enter and a good place to learn about Nicaragua's founding member of the revolutionary party that ousted the dictator Somoza after 45 years of his oppressive regime. My room was good sized, with a good bed and private bath, and Marlene makes a delicious breakfast, which is included in your price. Plenty of organic coffee is available, as there is always a pot on. The Nicaraguans like their coffee! Special mention and appreciation to Joaquin, Marlene's husband, for helping me find secure parking in a garage just around the corner. It xosts only $1 per night and I was much more at ease knowing my rental car would not be bothered. Street parking was fine right out front during the day an into the early evening. I was also able to negotiate, with Joquin's help, a very early departure from that garage, where the caretaker opened it up just for me to leave at 5 am on a Sunday morning! Marlene also made me dinner 3 times (the first time complimentary, and the next 2 for a small charge), and her food is tasty. She has no problems with vegan or vegetarian requirements, and I did not have to cook for myself! I felt like one of her family by the time I left, and I had met most of hers, as well as another guest, Penny from Seattle, who has stayed with Marlene on numerous trips to Matagalpa. I highly recommend Marlene's for location, value, view, and hospitality. If your Spanish is limited, though, you might struggle a little, but things will be understood eventually, I am sure. I enjoyed my stay in Matagalpa, and the end to my 11-day trip to Nicaragua was passed quite nicely at Marlene's!”
