“This place is really great. It's a lovely house and we were met by the helpful and friendly Christina. It's a bit of an adventure driving down the narrow track to the house but very rewarding when you arrive. It was a miserable rainy night when we finally got to the house after a long drive from Lisbon but we were immediately cheered up to see the smoke rising from the chimney and the cherry tree by the gate in full blossom. We had lots of fun cooking in the huge kitchen which is equipped with everything you could need and many nice meals eaten out in the garden by the pool. The neighbouring cows with their bells and the sound of the stream running below our bedroom window were always welcome sounds. Expect impressive mountain views, a comfortable and luxurious house and peaceful solitude.”

“Very clean apartment, very well equipped, wonderful location, for who loves nature and calm the place is perfect. Teresa and Mario super available and enjoyable. Only small black spot: very bad internet connection during our stay. Despite everything we strongly recommend this place”

“The valley under the village of Travassos is a green paradise. And little rivers all around. Cabril, Cabrao, Olo... So the land is very, very green, which I didn't expect at all in the end of August. Travassos itself: Love at first sight. In the morning I had my second coffee and "Pastel de Nata" at the local Café/Bar/Grocery Shop, "Café Santa Barbara". In the evening my "Super Bock" and "Tremocos". The friendliness of the locals is again and again breathtaking. Why are Portuguese so relaxed, so open minded, so welcoming. Do they know the words "anger", "hatred" or "impatience"? Maria, mother of Ana, my landlady, showed me the house and we found out, that communication in german would be best. She still spoke a good "Schwyzerdütsch", so communication worked. The apartment at "Casa do Doutor". Spotless, furnished with taste and craftsmanship, on the first floor - where I was - with a tiny terrace where I could have my first coffee in the morning. District of Mondim de Basto: They have about 6 or 7 hikes. But flyers for just two of them are ready laid out in english. The lady at the tourist information did send me .pdf-files for the other ones. But scrolling around on my smartphone in the file while hiking was not a good idea. I got lost a few times. And most or almost all the tours are one-way. Meaning: At the end of the tour I had to get a cab in order to get back to the start of the tour, where I had parked my car. Expensive and inconvenient. I can't just call a cab, because I don't speak the language. So I always had to find help, some english, french or german speaking local to call me a cab. But I already said: I have never met an unfriendly Portuguese. So I did get the help I needed and had some pretty interesting encounters. Would I come back? Yes!”
