All about Big Sky

Experience a Luxury Mountain Vacation in Montana

Vast starlit skies, unspoiled mountainscapes dusted with powder snow, and dense forests waiting to be explored are just some of the moments that can be enjoyed in Big Sky, Montana. Here, tranquility and adventure are equally assured.

This is a land where luxury goes hand in hand with rustic simplicity, and where each day can bring awe-inspiring views, explorations into the wilderness, and a wide range of sporting activities and opportunities for relaxation. To wake up in Montana and breathe the mountain air is among the most invigorating, life-affirming ways to start any day. Indeed, when it comes to recharging your batteries and escaping the stresses of modern life, there are few places in the world which do it better.

The Great Outdoors, Delivered in Style

After landing at Bozeman Airport, the drive into town will ease you into a blissful state of relaxation. With the snow-capped mountains looming on the horizon and the rolling hills beaconing with their verdant charm,  you’ll get a taste of what’s in store.

While staying in the fittingly named Big Sky, Montana, the opportunities for outdoor pursuits are endless. Whether you’re seeking an action-packed vacation full of thrills and natural encounters, or are looking for a relaxing break surrounded by beauty and fulfilling day trips, there’s no doubt that Big Sky will tick every box.

Of course, one of the main draws at Big Sky is the skiing, and Lone Mountain is as good as it gets if you delight in carving fresh tracks. Proudly piercing the sky above the treeline, you’ll have unfettered access to the purest powder snow at the peak. There are several ways down the mountain from a multitude of vantage points, and the six-mile descent towards the charming village is pure skier’s paradise.

For those looking for less adrenaline-fuelled ways to take in the majestic landscapes of Big Sky, there’s plenty to get excited about. For golfers, Big Sky offers some of the most spectacular courses in the American northwest. What could be better than improving your swing and working on your handicap, while taking in some of the most incredible views in the country? Followed by a relaxing drink, a home-cooked meal, and the world-renowned Montana hospitality, it may well turn out to be a high-point of your golfing life.

If you love nothing more than the utter tranquility and peace of mind that comes with fly fishing, then you’re in luck: Big Sky has access to some of the finest catch-and-release fly fishing spots in the region, and the crystal-clear mountain waters offer the chance to experience netting some truly impressive specimens.

A Gateway to Natural Wonders

If Montana is known for one thing above all others, it’s the iconic and incomparable Yellowstone National Park. The villas and resorts in Big Sky act as the perfect base from which to explore this untouched landscape.

No matter what time of year your visit, Yellowstone National Park provides a riot of color and natural beauty, along with the chance to get up close and personal with some of the planet’s most incredible natural occurrences. From wild encounters with the Park's famous denizens to hikes across the ridges and hillsides and photo opportunities at some of the most sought-after viewpoints in the world, it's impossible not to be swept away by the scale and beauty of this stunning location.

As the gentle breezes whistle their way through the tall trees, and the lakes shimmer in the afternoon sun, you’ll be filled with a sense of glee. Within the park, you can walk in the tracks of migrating bison and other such beasts, marvel at the natural wonder of geysers and hot springs, or enjoy a picnic and a glass of wine among panoramas which must be seen to be believed.

Unforgettable Sensorial Experiences

Montana is home to several events and festivals, inviting guests to lift the lid on the vibrant cultural scene of the region. Among the most renowned in the area are The Professional Bull-Riding Festival, which promises insight into the cattle herding history of this wild landscape, and the Vine and Dine Festival. Now in its fifth year, this gastronomic and oenological celebration of authentic Montana produce offers its guests a genuine treat for the palate, and a chance to further explore the treasures of this region.

Looking to refuel after an adventure-rich day? The pedestrian village of the Big Sky Resort is a quaint place for an evening stroll, as here you'll find the superb Hungry Moose Deli and Michaelangelo's: a fine dining Italian restaurant, where you can enjoy some quality European wines and lovingly-prepared dishes.

If you want to revel in the pleasure of truly getting away from it all, then the exclusive mountain excursions organized by Lone Mountain Ranch are not to be missed. This allows you the opportunity to move off-grid, and take your love of tranquility and simplicity further than ever before. Away from the influence of electricity, you can escape into a timeless alpine adventure all of your own, featuring classic sleigh rides, breathtaking views, and a fondue dinner to share with your loved ones.
